My Story

My name is Greg Orosz, and goaltending has been my passion for as long as I can remember.

I fell in love with the goalie position at a very young age. I started playing hockey when I was six years old and transitioned into goaltending about a year and a half later during a Christmas skate. From that moment on, I never looked back. I became obsessed with every detail of the position — the mindset, the responsibility, the technical side, and the constant challenge of improving.

I grew up playing in Győr for a smaller hockey organization, which gave me the opportunity to play against older age groups from an early age, face a high volume of shots, and experience every kind of situation possible as a young goalie. We didn’t win many games, but those experiences taught me resilience, adaptability, and how to compete no matter the circumstances.

One of the biggest challenges growing up was the lack of goalie-specific coaching and resources around me. My parents had no hockey background, so we learned everything as we went. We spent years traveling to goalie camps and training sessions across Slovakia, Czechia, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Canada, and the United States to learn from different coaches and train around older, better players. During the season, I woke up at 5:30 AM twice a week to drive to Slovakia for early morning goalie skates before heading straight back home to make it to school by 8 AM. Looking back, those experiences taught me what true commitment to development looks like.

As I continued improving, I earned the opportunity to move to North America and attend Stanstead College, where I developed under goalie coach Frank Longo, who still mentors me to this day. From there, I advanced to the North American Hockey League, playing for the Aberdeen Wings and Odessa Jackalopes while also representing Hungary internationally at the U20 World Championships.

Over the past three seasons, I competed at University of Alaska Anchorage at the NCAA Division I level. During that time, I experienced almost every role possible as a goalie — fighting for playing time, earning trust, losing it, rebuilding confidence, handling adversity, and learning the mental side of the game at a high level.

Through all of these experiences, one thing has stayed the same: my passion for goaltending. I genuinely love studying the game, breaking down details, analyzing goalies, and constantly learning more. That passion is what led me to start Crease Lab Goaltending.

I know firsthand how difficult it can be for young goalies to find proper guidance, honest feedback, and someone who truly understands the position. My goal is to provide the kind of support, detail, mentorship, and passion for development that I was always searching for throughout my own journey.

Goaltending is one of the hardest positions in sports,  and that is exactly why I love it.
